During the mid to late 90’s Max notched up a string of releases with friend, Tim White, recording under the name Essa. Play-listed by a wide variety of D.J’s from Bob Jones and Ashley Beedle to Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale and Mary-Ann Hobbs, Essa followed an impressive catalogue of 12” and E.P’s with their ‘Detritus Excitus’ L.P on Paperecordings in 2001.
Following the release of ‘Detritus Excitus’ Max embarked on a new adventure playing guitar with the infamous, Long Distance Runners. Attempting to “fill the gap between Joy Division and Marshall Jefferson”, Long Distance Runners organised and performed a series of gigs and parties in and around London over the next 2-3 years. This culminated in the very messy ‘Suite Spastique’ event from which certain participants never fully recovered.
After something of a sabbatical from the studio, during which time Max has managed to get married, become a father and start a highly desirable clothing line, he has returned with the ‘Midnight Garden E.P’. A glorious collection of slo-mo disco, rock and sunset vibes, ‘Midnight Garden’ is out NOW:
